John C. (Skeff) Sheehy Interview, 2000.

In this interview John "Skeff" Sheehy (b. 1918) discusses growing up in Butte during the 1920s and 1930s; his Irish-American heritage; Depression era in Butte; attending the University of Montana (Missoula) and the Montana School of Mines (Butte); attending law school in Missoula; his work for Jardine, Chase and Stephenson law firm; his thoughts on diploma priviledge for Montana graduates applying for law school (past policy no longer used to determine admittance to law school); work as chief deputy insurance commissioner; establishing Schiltz and Sheehy in Billings (later Wiggenhorn, Hutton, Schiltz and Sheehy); his service in the Montana State Legislature; fraud in Worker's Compensation in the early 1970s; running for the Montana Supreme Court; political affiliation and the Court; changes in the state's high court over his tenure; and his retirement. [Also includes two reminiscences written by Sheehy entitled "A Seven-Year Old Looks at Butte in 1925" and "Harrison J. Freebourn, 1890-1954"] (OH 1882)

John C. Sheehy was born in Butte, Mont. to Cornelius and Anne Sheehy in 1918. He attended the University of Montana where he received his law degree. Sheehy began practicing law in 1943 working in Great Falls and then moving to Billings. He was appointed to the Montana Supreme Court in 1978 and served as a justice until his retirement in 1991.
